Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County is Hiring an Electrician II Near Athens, GA

REPORTS TO: Operations Coordinator
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
CLASSIFICATION: Personnel System
PAY GRADE: 116; $47,561 -$56,656 depending on qualifications
SAFETY SENSITIVE: Yes, Subject to random drug testing per the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance
Purpose of Job
The purpose of this job is to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and components in unified government buildings. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, installing and maintaining existing electrical systems, performing new wiring projects, maintaining code compliance, and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Job Related Requirements
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
May be required to work on religious holidays.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Must work cooperatively with others.
When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy.Vocational or Technical Diploma with two years of electrical construction experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess a current Georgia State Unrestricted Electrical Contractor's License.
Criminal background must indicate eligibility for the supervision of inmates. 
Must obtain security training for the supervision of inmate workers as set forth by the Georgia Department of Corrections Standard Operating Procedures within six months of date of hire or first available opportunity.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Supervises and evaluates assigned staff, handling all employee concerns, directing work assignments, counseling and disciplining employees when necessary, and completing employee performance appraisals.
Installs and repairs electrical systems, equipment, and components in government-owned buildings; coordinates work with various contractors.
Maintains existing electrical systems, including conducting preventive maintenance on generators and other electrical components on Police and CIS UPS systems and the fuel systems for the generators.
Inspects and maintains theft and fire alarm systems, communication system cables and connections, and clocks.
Maintains and performs preventive maintenance on electric door lock systems and handicap access systems.
Performs electrical tasks such as new wiring projects and repairing or installing light fixtures, outlets, and switches in and outside of government buildings.
Inspects electrical equipment for code compliance, performs preventive maintenance for all equipment, and maintains related records.
Orders electrical parts and supplies as needed.
Repairs and replaces lighting fixtures for all Athens-Clarke County buildings.
Sets poles for outdoor lighting; digs ditches and runs conduit.
Responds to emergency service requests as a participant in division's on-call program.
Responsible for the purchasing, and maintenance of an electrical supply inventory; ensure work crews are provided with the electrical supplies needed for assigned projects.
Maintains records and files reports pertaining to work assignments.
Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of the Facilities Management Division of the Central Services Department as they pertain to the position of Electrician.
Knowledge of electrical and building codes and regulations.
Knowledge of the terminology used within the division and within the electrical trade.
Knowledge of electrical system installation, repair, maintenance, federal, state, and local electrical codes, and blueprints and electrical schematics.
Skill in the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools attributable to electrical systems.
Skill in the use and operation of various electrical, and construction tools and equipment.
Skill with the use of various electrician tools and equipment and other construction equipment.
Ability to diagnose and correct electrical problems.
Ability to lead and train electricians and Maintenance Technicians in the repair and replacement of electrical fixtures.
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, work crews, and other staff members.
Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations.
Mathematical ability to handle required calculations.
Ability to plan, organize and/or prioritize daily assignments and work activities.
Ability to comprehend and apply regulations and procedures of the division.
Ability to maintain an assortment of records, reports, and information in an effective manner.

TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including utility truck, bucket truck, trenching machine, drills, ladders, hand trucks, circuit testers, hand tools and various other electrical and construction equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of medium work.
DATA CONCEPTION: Requires the ability to compare and or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.
INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to hear, speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving / receiving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or assistants / from supervisors.
LANGUAGE ABILITY: Requires ability to read a variety of electrical blueprints, work orders, employee evaluations, invoices and informational documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures. Requires the ability to prepare daily reports, purchase orders, and disciplinary reports using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control, and confidence.
INTELLIGENCE: Requires the ability to learn and understand complex principles and techniques; to acquire and be able to expound on knowledge of topics related to primary occupation; and to make independent judgment in the absence of management.
VERBAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, and to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of administrative, technical or professional languages including mechanical and electrical terminology.
NUMERICAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; utilize determine percentages; interpret graphs; perform calculations involving variables, formulas, square roots, and polynomials.
FORM/SPATIAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, visually with electrical and construction equipment.
MOTOR COORDINATION: Requires the ability to coordinate hands, fingers, and eyes accurately in using electrical and construction equipment. Requires the ability to lift, bend, push, pull, manipulate equipment/tools and objects as the position necessitates.

MANUAL DEXTERITY: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as electrical and construction tools and equipment. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
COLOR DISCRIMINATION: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT:Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency.
PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (Talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words). (Hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear).
